Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Durgapur, West Bengal, and launched development projects worth over ₹5,400 crore to boost the state’s infrastructure and economy. Speaking in the city known for its strong workforce, he said these projects would help improve transportation, increase use of clean energy, and strengthen Durgapur’s industrial image.
These projects are part of the larger “Make in India, Make for the World” mission and aim to create new job opportunities for the youth of West Bengal.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
1. Development and Infrastructure Growth:
PM Modi spoke about India’s goal to become a developed country by 2047 (Viksit Bharat). He listed several achievements from the last 10 years, such as:
- Building over 4 crore pucca houses
- Providing crores of toilets
- Giving tap water to over 12 crore homes
- Constructing thousands of kilometers of roads
- Expanding internet and rail networks
2. Road and Rail Improvements in Bengal:
- Two new road overbridges were opened in Paschim Bardhaman, costing ₹380 crore, to make travel easier and reduce accidents.
- The Purulia-Kotshila Rail Line has been doubled (costing ₹390 crore), improving train services for industrial cities like Jamshedpur and Ranchi.
3. Air Travel and Job Creation:
Durgapur airport has been included under the UDAN scheme, which helped over 5 lakh people fly last year. PM Modi said improved transport boosts business and creates jobs, even during construction.

4. Energy and Gas Projects:
- The Durgapur to Kolkata gas pipeline (₹1,190 crore) is now complete and will supply gas to homes and vehicles in several districts.
- Bharat Petroleum’s new City Gas project in Bankura and Purulia (₹1,950 crore) will bring piped gas to homes, shops, and factories.
5. Clean Energy Projects:
- PM Modi launched pollution control systems for two power stations in Durgapur and Raghunathpur, costing ₹1,457 crore. These systems will make power plants cleaner and more efficient.

PM Modi said India’s progress comes from development, job creation, and responsive governance. He believes these efforts will make West Bengal an important part of India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.
