The Delhi government has decided to extend its current EV policy by another three months and continue providing power subsidies for residents.

This decision was made in a Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. However, the government did not approve the draft of the new EV Policy 2.0 suggested by the Transport Department. Instead, the Cabinet has asked for some changes to the proposal.

Transport Minister Pankaj Singh told reporters that discussions on the new EV Policy 2.0 are still ongoing. Until it is finalized, the existing EV policy will stay in effect. He also mentioned that delays in giving EV subsidies by the previous government had reduced public trust. The new BJP-led government is working to fix this issue. So far, about Rs 48.36 crore in subsidies are still pending for EV buyers.

Singh also cleared up rumors about banning autorickshaws and two-wheelers under the new EV policy. He confirmed that no such ban is being planned. “All autorickshaws and bikes will continue to run in Delhi,” he said.

There had been reports suggesting that the draft EV Policy 2.0 would stop issuing new CNG auto permits and not renew old ones after August 15. If renewed, only electric auto permits would be allowed. However, officials said this was not true and the proposal is still under review. With over 1 lakh autos and bikes in Delhi, it’s not practical to switch to EVs suddenly.

The meeting also included suggestions to promote EVs and make the transition from petrol or CNG vehicles to electric smoother and easier for people.

In another important decision, the Cabinet approved the continuation of all power subsidies. These subsidies will continue to benefit households, farmers, lawyers, and 1984 riot victims.

Power Minister Ashish Sood criticized the opposition, saying that some “jobless leaders” are spreading false news about the end of subsidies. He added, “The BJP government is committed to helping the people, and all welfare schemes will continue.”
