The government has made it clear that there are no plans to charge toll tax on two-wheelers. This comes after some media reports claimed that bikes and scooters might soon have to pay tolls.
To clear the confusion, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) posted on social media (X), saying,

“Some media reports are saying the government will start charging toll for two-wheelers. We want to clarify that there is no such proposal under consideration.”
#FactCheck: Some sections of the media have reported that the Government of India plans to levy user fees on two-wheelers. #NHAI would like to clarify that no such proposal is under consideration. There are no plans to introduce toll charges for two-wheelers. #FakeNews

Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari also confirmed that these reports are false. He said,
“There is no plan to charge toll for two-wheelers. The exemption will continue.”
Currently, two-wheelers do not pay any toll charges, and that will remain unchanged.
The confusion may have started because the government recently announced a new FASTag Annual Pass, which is only for cars and other private vehicles — not two-wheelers.
This new FASTag Annual Pass, launching on August 15, will allow up to 200 toll-free trips or unlimited highway travel for one year for Rs. 3,000. It’s aimed at making travel smoother and cheaper for regular highway users, especially for middle-class families. It will also help reduce traffic at toll plazas and encourage digital payments.
So, to be clear:
Two-wheelers remain toll-free. There is no new rule or plan to charge bikes or scooters on highways.
