Famiangi, believed to be the oldest woman in Mizoram, died at the age of 117. She passed away on the morning of July 23 at her home in Pangkhua village, located in the southern part of Lawngtlai district.
In recent months, Famiangi’s health had started to decline due to age-related problems. Despite her old age, she was known for her strong spirit and good health.

In 2023, she even voted in the Mizoram State Assembly Elections and was honoured by the State Election Commission for doing so.
A Long and Inspiring Life
According to local community records, Famiangi was born in 1908 to parents Huathmung and Suisung. She married Heinawna and had eight children. Over the years, her family grew to include 51 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Famiangi lived through India’s colonial period, independence, and the modern era — witnessing over a century of history and change.
World’s Oldest Marathon Runner Fauja Singh Dies in Road Accident
Just days before Famiangi’s passing, Fauja Singh — the world’s oldest marathon runner — also died at the age of 114 in a tragic hit-and-run accident.
The accident happened on July 15 while Fauja Singh was crossing the road in his village, Beas, in Punjab.
A Late Start to a Remarkable Career
In the 1990s, Fauja Singh moved to England to live with his son. At the age of 89, he amazed the world by taking up running. He competed in marathons around the world in the senior age category and inspired millions.
Fauja Singh was given full state honours after his death. His body was placed in a glass casket so that people could pay their final respects. A special vehicle carried his body to the cremation ground for the last rites.
These two legends, who lived over a century each, leave behind stories of strength, inspiration, and unforgettable legacies.
