A tragic incident occurred in southern Brazil where a 16-year-old boy attacked a school, leading to the death of a young student and injuries to two others.
The attack happened at Maria Nascimento Giacomazzi School in Rio Grande do Sul. According to officials, the teenager killed a 9-year-old boy and injured an 8-year-old girl and a 34-year-old teacher.

The police said that the boy died from his injuries, while the girl and the teacher are now in stable condition. The teacher was hurt while trying to protect the students.
Although the weapon has not been officially confirmed, the local police chief, Geverson Zimmerman, said the victims had stab wounds. He also shared that the suspect was familiar to the school staff and had been receiving mental health treatment.
Following this incident, authorities have increased security measures in schools across the region because of a recent rise in similar attacks.
Brazil has faced several school violence cases in the past. In April 2023, a man with an axe killed four young children at a daycare center in Blumenau, Santa Catarina. One of the most deadly attacks happened in 2011, when a man shot and killed 12 children at a school in Realengo, near Rio de Janeiro, before ending his own life.
These incidents have raised serious concerns about school safety and student mental health in Brazil.
