The 1997 film Ishq, directed by Indra Kumar, was a big hit. It starred Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, and Ajay Devgn and was loved for its comedy and songs. But behind the scenes, things weren’t always happy—especially for Kajol.
In a recent interview with Mashable, Kajol shared that she often felt left out during the long shooting schedule. She said Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla were very friendly with the director, Indra Kumar, and the three of them formed a close group. Kajol and Ajay Devgn weren’t part of that circle, which made her feel lonely at times.

She said, “Aamir, Juhi, and the director were very close. It was mostly just Ajay and me. And slowly, it became only me. There were some days when I didn’t feel like talking to anyone.”
300 Days of Shooting Felt Too Long
Kajol also revealed that Ishq took 300 days to shoot, which made things even more tiring. She explained, “We spent 8 to 10 hours every day on set for 300 days. I can try to be friendly, but I can’t be chatting all the time. Even extroverts like me need some quiet time.”
Her Bond with Ajay Devgn Grew Stronger
Even though Kajol felt alone, something good came out of the experience—her bond with Ajay Devgn grew stronger. They had worked together before in Hulchul (1995), but Ishq brought them even closer. Two years after the film’s release, they got married in 1999. Today, they are proud parents of two children—Nysa and Yug—and have been married for 26 years.
Kajol’s Upcoming Film
On the work front, Kajol will be seen next in Maa, a mythological horror film directed by Vishal Furia. It’s set to release on June 27, 2025.
