MG is ready to bring a fresh new look to the MG4 EV. The updated MG4 EV was recently seen in China, signaling a September launch. This new version has several exciting changes both outside and inside the car. It also aims to take on strong rivals like the BYD Dolphin and Volkswagen ID.3.
The first thing that catches the eye is the new colour called Donglai Purple. This special shade means “coming from the East.” It shines differently in various lights, giving the MG4 EV a cool, fresh look. The front also now features an illuminated MG logo, making the car look more modern and techy.

Inside, the MG4 EV gets a big makeover. The dashboard looks clean and simple, with a floating screen in the centre for infotainment. The digital instrument cluster is rectangular and clear. The steering wheel has changed to a new two-spoke design with many buttons for easy control. Instead of the old gear stick, there is now a column-mounted electronic shifter.
Technology is a big focus. The MG4 EV will have Oppo’s new in-car system. This means better smartphone connection, app mirroring, AI voice help, and gesture controls. Other features include wireless phone charging, ventilated seats you can adjust with power, and metal buttons for a premium feel.

The car’s size has also grown. It is now longer and has a bigger wheelbase. This means more legroom and space for bags or groceries. Here are the new dimensions:
- Length: 4395 mm (up 108 mm)
- Width: 1842 mm
- Height: 1551 mm
- Wheelbase: 2750 mm (up 45 mm)
Under the hood, the MG4 EV keeps its 120 kW motor at the rear. The suspension system remains the same with a MacPherson strut in front and a five-link setup at the rear.
There are talks that the new MG4 EV might get a semi-solid-state battery. This kind of battery could push the range up to 800 km on a single charge under the Chinese CLTC test. However, MG’s parent company, SAIC, has not confirmed this yet.
The MG4 EV will also come with Level 2+ assisted driving features, including Highway NOA (Navigation on Autopilot), making driving easier and safer.
MG plans to start pre-orders on August 5 in China. The official launch will happen on September 5. With its sharper design, high-tech interior, and bigger size, the MG4 EV looks set to become a strong player in the small electric car market.
This new MG4 EV could not only shake up the Chinese market but also boost MG’s reputation in places like Australia, where the current MG4 has many fans.
