Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar rang the famous five-minute bell at Lord’s before the start of the third Test match between India and England. It was a proud moment for him, but he also made headlines for something more heartfelt.
Tendulkar praised Shubman Gill, India’s current captain, for his calm and composed leadership. He said, “Gill has been doing a great job. He stays calm, and that helps the rest of the team. His decisions are thoughtful, and his good batting form adds to his confidence as a captain.”
He also complimented Gill’s recent performance with the bat, saying, “He’s been batting really well. Opponents usually try to find weaknesses, but right now, Gill is in amazing form. Whatever I’ve seen, it’s been very special.”

Tendulkar spoke about India’s strong comeback after losing the first match of the series. “I’m happy with how the team bounced back in the second match. In the first one, we dropped some catches — and as my coach used to say, ‘catches win matches’.”
On the occasion of Guru Purnima, Tendulkar also shared a heartfelt message: “I want to thank all the Gurus for their guidance. We truly appreciate everything they’ve done for us.”
Adding to the special day, Tendulkar’s portrait — painted by Stuart Pearson Wright — was unveiled at the MCC Museum at Lord’s. He reflected on the moment, saying, “In 1983, when India won the World Cup, that was my first memory of Lord’s. Now, having my portrait inside the Pavilion, it feels like life has come full circle.”
