Tesla has launched Grok AI, a bold new voice assistant, in its latest software update 2025.26. Starting July 12, 2025, all new Tesla vehicles will come with Grok pre-installed. This is not just another voice bot. It’s fun, sharp, and unlike anything Tesla drivers have seen before.
What is Grok AI?
Grok AI is a hands-free, chat-style assistant developed by xAI, Elon Musk’s AI startup. It lets you talk to your car like you’re chatting with a friend. Grok responds in natural language and comes with different “personalities”—from a kind Storyteller to the wild Unhinged mode.

This marks a big moment. It’s the first time Tesla is deeply connecting its cars with Elon Musk’s AI company. And it’s doing it with style.

Who Gets Grok?
If you buy a Tesla on or after July 12, 2025, you’ll get Grok AI out of the box. But if you already own a Tesla, don’t worry—you might still get it.
Here’s what your car needs:
- AMD infotainment chip
- Software version 2025.26 or later
- Model S, 3, X, Y or Cybertruck
- A working Wi-Fi or Premium Connectivity
More models might get access soon as Tesla rolls out updates.
How It Works
To use Grok AI, you just open the App Launcher or hold the voice button on your steering wheel. It talks back like a real human and can answer questions or just chat for fun.
But here’s the catch—Grok can’t control the car yet. You still need to use standard voice commands for things like music, maps, or AC.
Tesla is calling this a Beta launch, so more features may come later. Right now, you don’t need any Grok account or xAI subscription to use it.
Is It Private?
Tesla says your chats with Grok stay private. They’re handled by xAI and not linked to your Tesla account. If you sign in separately, you can sync your chats across other devices.
Why This Matters
This move shows Tesla’s clear shift toward making cars more than just machines. They’re turning into full tech hubs—complete with smart AI, bold design, and Elon’s personal touch.
Tesla is also promoting Grok on its official site now. It’s clear the company is proud of this new in-car AI—and wants the world to know.
