British advertising giant WPP has started a major ad group revamp by naming Cindy Rose as its new CEO. The announcement came just one day after the company shocked markets with a big profit warning, showing how serious the situation is.
Rose, who has been a WPP board member since 2019, will officially take charge on September 1. She replaces Mark Read, who is stepping down four months earlier than expected.

From Tech Powerhouse to Ad Giant
Cindy Rose comes from Microsoft, where she spent nine years in senior leadership roles. She was most recently Chief Operating Officer for Global Enterprise. Before that, she led Microsoft UK and worked at Vodafone and Virgin Media. She brings in deep tech knowledge and experience in AI, digital growth, and business transformation.
WPP Chairman Philip Jansen praised her leadership, saying she has helped big companies across the world embrace artificial intelligence to build new business models. He believes this skill set is perfect for leading WPP’s ad group revamp at a time of rapid change and uncertainty.
WPP Faces Tough Times
This change in leadership comes at a crucial moment. WPP is struggling. Its stock dropped 19% after the company slashed its profit forecast. Big clients have left. Others have cut their spending. New deals have dried up. June was especially bad.
WPP also lost its title as the world’s top ad group to France’s Publicis last year. The company is now trying to regain its edge in a market that is changing fast due to AI tools, which let clients handle their own marketing.
Cindy Rose Stays Optimistic
Despite the problems, Cindy Rose remains confident. She said she has worked closely with WPP as a client and partner before. She believes WPP still has big strengths – from strong AI capabilities to top creative talent and a loyal client base.
In her words, “We have and continue to build market-leading AI capabilities, alongside an unrivalled reputation for creative excellence.”
Now, all eyes are on her as she leads WPP’s ad group revamp and tries to bring it back to the top.
