Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a big blow to their hopes of reaching the playoffs in IPL 2025 after losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets at home. This defeat left CSK struggling, having won only two out of eight matches so far.
SRH chose to bowl first in this important match, and their bowlers performed really well on a slow pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Harshal Patel was the star for SRH, taking 4 wickets for 28 runs. He made it tough for the CSK batsmen with his smart bowling. Captain Pat Cummins supported him with 2 wickets for 21 runs, while Mohammed Shami (1/28), Jaydev Unadkat (2/21), and Kamindu Mendis (1/26) also bowled well. Mendis even took a stunning diving catch during the match.

CSK’s batting started poorly when Shaik Rasheed was out on the very first ball, caught by Abhishek Sharma at first slip off Shami’s bowling. However, Ayush Mhatre tried to fight back with a quick 30 runs from 19 balls, hitting Shami, Cummins, and Unadkat for some runs. But soon after, CSK lost more wickets. Sam Curran was out cheaply, misjudging a slower ball from Harshal Patel and getting caught. Mhatre also got out, caught off Cummins, leaving CSK at a poor 50 for 3 after the powerplay.
Veteran Ravindra Jadeja got another chance when Harshal dropped a simple catch, but he couldn’t take advantage of it. Mendis bowled him out, and CSK were struggling at 76 for 4 at the halfway point.

Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis tried to build a partnership. Dube hit some nice shots off Shami, while Brevis hit four sixes, three of them off Mendis in one over. But just when Brevis seemed ready to play a big knock, he was caught for 42 runs off 25 balls. The wickets kept falling after that, with Dube getting out to Abhishek Sharma and MS Dhoni, playing his 400th T20 match, failing to make an impact. He was caught off Harshal Patel.
Deepak Hooda’s 22 runs off 21 balls gave CSK some late runs, but they finished with just 154 runs, which wasn’t enough to win the match.
