Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will virtually inaugurate the BrahMos missile production unit in Lucknow on Sunday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lead the ceremony on-site. Along with the production unit, a new facility for missile testing and assembly called the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility will also be opened.

During the event, the Titanium and Super Alloys Materials Plant (Strategic Materials Technology Complex) will also be launched. This plant will produce high-quality materials for the aerospace and defence industries.

The ₹300 crore facility, spread over 80 hectares, has been completed in just three-and-a-half years. It will manufacture the BrahMos missile, a joint project between India and Russia. This missile has a range of up to 400 km, can travel at speeds of up to Mach 2.8, and can be launched from land, sea, or air. It works on a “fire and forget” system, making it highly accurate and hard to intercept.

Additionally, the Defence Testing Infrastructure System (DTIS) will be set up, which will help in the testing and certification of defence products. The foundation stone for this system will also be laid during the event.

With this new facility, Uttar Pradesh becomes the second state, after Tamil Nadu, to be part of India’s Defence Industrial Corridor. This initiative, under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ programs, aims to boost local defence production. The state’s six-node corridor—Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Aligarh, Agra, and Chitrakoot—is well-positioned near major expressways, making it easier to transport goods and support defence manufacturing.
