A 43-year-old woman named Sunita from Nagpur crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and entered Pakistan from a village in Kargil district, Ladakh. This surprised Indian security and intelligence agencies.
Sunita used to work as a nurse in a hospital in Nagpur. She wanted to meet a Pakistani pastor whom she said she met online. This was her third time trying to cross the border. Earlier, she was stopped twice at the Attari border.

Her crossing the border without being noticed is worrying because of the strict security due to tensions between India and Pakistan.
Sunita is now believed to be in custody with Pakistani authorities, who are trying to understand why she crossed the border. Indian officials have not yet officially confirmed this.
On May 14, Sunita left her 15-year-old son in a village near the LoC called Hundermaan, telling him to wait for her return. When she didn’t come back, the villagers gave the boy to the Ladakh police.
The police are investigating Sunita’s background, including her phone records. Her family said she had mental health problems and was getting treatment at a mental hospital in Nagpur.
Sunita’s brother told reporters that she was undergoing treatment for her mental health. In March, she was stopped by police along with her son at the Attari checkpoint during one of her earlier attempts to cross the border.
