AI technology is advancing faster than ever, and Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, believes 2025 will be a breakthrough year for AI agents. Speaking at the India Today Conclave, he explained how these AI-powered assistants will become important partners in our daily lives, changing the way we work, learn, and interact with technology.

Chandok highlighted that the AI industry is growing rapidly, with both large and small language models playing a role. Traditionally, the tech world followed Moore’s Law, which predicted that computer power would double every two years. However, AI models are now improving at twice that speed—every six months.

This rapid progress, he said, will bring three key benefits:

  1. More Intelligence – AI will become smarter and more capable.
  2. More Empathy – AI will better understand human emotions and needs.
  3. More Agency – AI will take on more responsibilities, assisting people in meaningful ways.

With these advancements, AI agents are expected to become a major part of everyday life, making tasks easier and interactions more natural.

Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, explained how AI is evolving beyond just being a tool. AI agents are now becoming smart, understanding, and proactive assistants.

AI agents are not secret agents like James Bond—they’re smart systems that understand your needs and get things done. Chandok shared how his AI assistant prepared documents and reviewed legal clauses mid-flight, showcasing intelligence in action. Beyond personal use, AI copilots can empower professionals, like giving first-year doctors expertise comparable to seasoned practitioners. This technology makes expert knowledge accessible, boosting productivity and decision-making across industries.

AI Agents Are Making Work Easier and More Productive

According to Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, AI agents save time by handling routine tasks. He shared that his AI assistant filters emails and drafts responses, freeing up 30 minutes daily.

Nitin Mittal, a principal at Deloitte Global, sees AI as a tool to expand the workforce, not shrink it. AI-powered digital nurses, for example, assist thousands of patients, improving healthcare outcomes.

While AI boosts efficiency and creates new opportunities, both Chandok and Mittal acknowledge the need for skill adaptation. “Jobs aren’t disappearing, but they are evolving,” Chandok said, urging continuous learning. “You won’t lose your job to AI, but to someone who knows how to use it better.”
