India Foils Pakistan's Drone Attack on Golden Temple

The Indian Army has revealed that Pakistan tried to attack the Golden Temple in Amritsar using drones and missiles during the night of May 7–8. This was in response to India’s military strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Major General Kartik C Seshadri, who leads the 15th Infantry Division, said that since Pakistan had no proper military targets, they were expected to attack civilian and religious places. “We knew they would try to target religious sites, and the Golden Temple was the most likely,” he said.

To protect the Golden Temple, the Indian Army set up extra air defence systems. “We provided full air defence cover to the Golden Temple using modern equipment,” the officer added.

In the early hours of May 8, Pakistan launched a major air attack using drones and long-range missiles under the cover of darkness. However, the Indian Army was fully ready for such an attack. Their alert air defence team intercepted and destroyed all incoming threats, ensuring the Golden Temple was not harmed

“Our brave soldiers shot down every drone and missile aimed at the Golden Temple. Not even a single scratch came to our holy site,” said Major General Seshadri.

To show the success of the defence, the Army demonstrated how systems like the AKASH missiles and L-70 Air Defence Guns helped protect not only the Golden Temple but also key cities across Punjab.

Earlier, the Defence Ministry confirmed that several Indian cities were also targeted, including Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, and Bhuj. Explosions were heard in parts of Kashmir as well. The Indian defence system, including anti-drone technology, successfully neutralised all the threats.

This attack from Pakistan happened shortly after India’s Operation Sindoor — a military mission that destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. India carried out this operation in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 civilians.
