
Heavy rain across Northeast India has caused serious damage, with floods and landslides affecting several states. One of the worst incidents happened in Chhaten, Sikkim, where a landslide hit an army camp, leading to the death of three soldiers and six more going missing, according to a defence official.
The landslide struck around 7 PM on Sunday due to continuous rainfall. So far, three bodies have been found, and four other personnel were rescued with minor injuries. Rescue teams are working non-stop in difficult conditions to find the six missing soldiers.

Tourists Stranded in Sikkim
Heavy rain has also affected normal life in Sikkim. Around 1,500 tourists were stuck, but rescue efforts involving the police, local people, forest officials, and hotel staff are helping them return safely.
Important bridges have also been damaged. The Sankalang bamboo bridge, which connects to the Dzongu constituency, has collapsed. The Phidang Bailey Bridge, which links Mangan and Chungthang, has suffered damage at its base.
Overall Death Toll Reaches 34
Across the Northeast, at least 34 people have died in the last four days due to floods and landslides, reports say. States like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Tripura are badly affected.
In Assam, five people lost their lives in landslides. The state government will provide ₹4 lakh compensation to the families of the victims.
In Mizoram’s Aizawl district, schools were shut down on Monday (June 2) after heavy rain caused landslides, mudslides, and rockfalls, making travel unsafe.

Government Action
Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken with the Chief Ministers of all affected states and assured full support during this disaster.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of more heavy rain in the coming days, raising concern about further damage and safety risks.
