Apple is planning to improve its MagSafe wireless chargers before the new iPhone 17 comes out. According to a recent report, Apple is working on two new MagSafe chargers that might charge much faster — up to 50 watts (W).

These new chargers, with model numbers A3502 and A3503, were found on a Taiwanese government website. They look similar to the current MagSafe chargers but are made to support a new wireless charging standard called Qi2.2.

Qi2.2 is expected to be officially announced soon and will improve how power is delivered, how the charger aligns with the phone magnetically, and overall charging efficiency. These improvements will be important for Apple’s next wireless charging system.

The documents say the chargers can output up to 45W of power, which is much higher than the current 15W limit on today’s MagSafe chargers. This could mean the iPhone 17 will be able to wirelessly charge faster than any iPhone before — possibly up to 50W.

The only difference between the two chargers is the cable length — one has a 1-meter cable and the other has a 2-meter cable.

These new chargers will also work with older iPhones, from the iPhone 11 up to the iPhone 16. But only the iPhone 17 will be able to use the new features of Qi2.2 fully, since older models don’t support this new standard.

Right now, Apple’s MagSafe chargers work with the Qi2 standard but not the newer Qi2.1. The current iPhone 16 can charge wirelessly at up to 25W, but only if you use Apple’s 30W charger. This shows the new Qi2.2 could allow much faster charging.
