Bangalore University Plans 2.5-Km Flyover to Ease Campus Traffic

Bangalore University is planning to build a 2.5-kilometre flyover inside its Jnanabharathi campus to reduce traffic and create a peaceful learning environment. The flyover will connect Mysuru Road with Ullala Main Road, offering an alternative route for commuters and helping keep traffic out of the campus.

Right now, many vehicles use the campus roads as shortcuts between areas like Nagarbhavi, Kengeri, and Ullala. This heavy traffic causes noise and accidents, making it hard for students and teachers to focus on studies.

A university official told reporters that the noise from vehicles is disturbing classes and academic work. The issue was raised with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who visited the campus recently. The university hopes the government will support the flyover project.

The proposal is still in the early stages and will be formally shared with the Karnataka government after more discussions.

This is not the first time students and staff have asked for traffic control. The demand became stronger after a student named Shilpashree died in a bus accident on campus two years ago. After that, some vehicle restrictions were introduced at night, but daytime traffic remained a problem.

The planned flyover is seen as a permanent solution to protect students and restore calm on the campus. If approved, it will redirect non-academic traffic above the campus instead of through it, making the university safer and quieter.
