In a strange and emotional coincidence, two plane crash survivors—years and miles apart—were both seated in seat 11A when they miraculously survived deadly accidents.

Thai singer Ruangsak Loychusak, now 47, recently shared that he survived a tragic 1998 plane crash while sitting in seat 11A. That same seat was also occupied by Viswashkumar, the only person who survived the recent Air India flight AI 171 crash, which claimed 241 lives.

Ruangsak was flying from Bangkok to Surat Thani on Thai Airways Flight TG261 when the plane crashed into a swamp while trying to land. Out of 132 passengers and 14 crew members, 101 people died, and many others were injured. Ruangsak was among the 45 survivors.

Reflecting on the terrifying experience, he said he had a hard time flying again for 10 years. “Even though the air inside the plane was normal, I had trouble breathing,” he shared. “I didn’t talk to anyone, kept looking outside the window, and would panic if I saw dark clouds or storms.”

After hearing about the Indian crash survivor also sitting in seat 11A, Ruangsak said, “I want to offer my condolences to all those who lost loved ones in the tragedy.”

Viswashkumar, the lone survivor of Air India Flight AI 171, also sat in 11A. He lost his brother Ajaykumar, who was seated nearby in 11J. Both brothers were originally from Diu and had lived in the UK for over 15 years. They ran a garment business in London and a fishing venture back home.
