During his first-ever visit to Zagreb, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a meaningful gift from Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković — a reprint of Vezdin’s Sanskrit Grammar. This special book, first printed in 1790 by Croatian scholar Filip Vezdin, is the first-ever Sanskrit grammar written in Latin. It represents a strong cultural bond between India and Croatia.

PM Plenković also gifted Modi a book titled Croatia & India: Bilateral Navigator for Diplomats and Business, written by Croatian diplomat Sinisa Grgic. The book focuses on the relationship between the two countries.

Key Agreements and Discussions

The two leaders signed agreements to work together in areas such as agriculture, culture, science, and technology. They also talked about boosting economic ties through trade, investment, and tourism.

PM Plenković said India is a key trading partner in Asia. In 2024, trade between India and Croatia was worth $242 million, and it has already grown by 10% in the first three months of 2025. He also noted an increase in Indian tourists visiting Croatia.

The two countries plan to increase cooperation in areas like ICT (Information and Communication Technology), pharmaceuticals, and maritime transport.

A Historic Visit

PM Modi’s visit is the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia. He was warmly welcomed by PM Plenković in Zagreb. The Croatian PM posted on social media, saying the visit marks a new chapter in India-Croatia relations and will help strengthen ties across multiple sectors.
