At least 34 people were killed in Gaza after Israeli airstrikes started late Friday and continued into Saturday morning, according to health officials.

  • 12 people died at Palestine Stadium in Gaza City, where many displaced people were staying.
  • 8 others were killed in nearby apartments.
  • 6 people died in southern Gaza when a strike hit their tent in Muwasi.
  • These numbers come from staff at Shifa Hospital, where the bodies were taken.

Meanwhile,  U.S. President Donald Trump said there could be a ceasefire in Gaza within a week. Speaking on Friday, he said, “We’re working on Gaza and trying to get it taken care of.”

An Israeli official, Ron Dermer, is also planning to visit Washington next week to discuss possible peace talks.

Ongoing Conflict and Heavy Losses

Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza after breaking a previous ceasefire in March. Since then, more than 56,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Over half of the victims are women and children.

Hostages and Peace Talks

Hamas, the group in control of Gaza, has said it is ready to release all hostages if the war ends. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the war will not stop until Hamas gives up its weapons and its leaders leave Gaza — demands that Hamas has rejected.

Families of Israeli hostages are hoping Trump’s past success in helping with a ceasefire between Israel and Iran might now help bring peace in Gaza.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

People in Gaza are facing severe food shortages. For more than two months, no food was allowed into the region. Since mid-May, only limited supplies have been let in.

But even the little food that gets in is hard to deliver. Armed groups have looted UN aid trucks, and desperate crowds have taken food directly from the convoys, disrupting efforts to help.
