The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has been put on hold for 24 hours because of warnings about heavy rainfall, officials said.

Pilgrims who have reached Rishikesh are being asked to stay there for now. Others who are further along the journey are being stopped at safe places.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for very heavy rain in several parts of the state.
