Now, one year later, Rohit looked back on that unforgettable day during a special show called Champions Waali Feeling Phir Se on JioHotstar.
“Thirteen years is a long time. Many players don’t even play that long,” Rohit said emotionally. “The last time I won a World Cup was in 2007, so waiting this long made it extra special.”
He also shared how nervous he felt the night before the final. “I didn’t sleep at all. I kept thinking about the match. My legs were shaking from nervousness. I don’t usually show it, but I was feeling it deeply inside,” he admitted.
Rohit said he woke up early that morning, looked out at the stadium from his hotel room, and thought, In two hours, I’ll be playing there. In four hours, we’ll know the result—whether the cup will come to us or not.
This tournament was also a historic one for Indian cricket as both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from T20 internationals after the win. They ended their T20 careers on a high note.
During the tournament, Rohit was one of India’s top performers. He scored 257 runs in 8 matches, including three half-centuries. He had an average of 36.71 and an impressive strike rate of over 155, making him the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
