Himachal Pradesh is set for two more days of heavy to very heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded the alarm, putting six districts under an orange alert from July 14 to 15.

The warning includes Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur. Yes, Sirmaur appears twice because it’s that serious.

According to Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at the Shimla Meteorological Centre, the state has already seen moderate rainfall in the last 24 hours. Rajgarh in Sirmaur district recorded the highest rainfall at 72 mm.

Light showers also hit parts of Una, Bilaspur, and Solan.

“On July 14 and 15, we expect moderate rainfall across most mid and low hill areas,” Sharma said. “But Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur are likely to face heavy to very heavy rain today. Tomorrow, Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur will face the same risk.”

That means continuous rain, possible waterlogging, landslides, and more travel disruptions.

What’s Next for Himachal Pradesh?

Starting July 16, the active monsoon phase will continue till at least July 20. Isolated heavy rain is likely in Una, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for districts like Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Kullu, where isolated rain may still cause damage.

This season, Himachal Pradesh has received 19% more rainfall than normal. In fact, Shimla and Mandi have seen double their average rainfall. But not all is well — Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti are lagging with below-average rain.

“As of now, July rainfall is normal,” Sharma said.

Temperature Update

Day temperatures are around average. In Shimla, it was 23.4°C, and in Bilaspur, it touched 32°C. Mornings are warmer than usual, but that could change as rain continues.

Flash Flood Risk and Alerts

Real-time flash flood alerts are being issued by the IMD, based on satellite and ground data. Authorities are working with local teams to push alerts fast.

People living in the alert zones of Himachal Pradesh are advised to stay indoors during heavy showers, avoid travel through landslide-prone areas, and follow weather updates from trusted sources.

Monsoon is beautiful but brutal. Himachal Pradesh is getting more rain than it can handle. The next few days need caution, patience, and good old Himachali resilience.

Stay sharp, stay dry, and don’t ignore those IMD alerts.
