SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company will launch the 10th test flight of its massive Starship rocket in about three weeks, likely on August 4. This will be the fourth launch this year of the fully reusable rocket system.

Musk made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) after a user posted a video of Starship and asked when people first got interested in the rocket. Musk replied to the post and revealed the timeline for the next launch.

This update comes after a recent setback—Ship 36, which was supposed to be used for the next flight, exploded during a test on June 18. Now, SpaceX is preparing a new rocket for the mission—likely Ship 37, paired with Booster 16, which just completed a successful 33-engine static fire test.

Starship’s Goal: Reaching Mars

Along with this update, Musk also shared a new video showing a fully stacked Starship at SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Texas. The video shows the progress SpaceX is making in building and testing the rocket.

An X user commented, “Hopefully in our lifetime we see humans settle on Mars.” Musk simply replied: “Yes.”

This reflects Musk’s long-term vision: he wants SpaceX to build a self-sustaining city on Mars. He believes this is important for the future of humanity. According to him, Mars could serve as a backup planet in case something bad happens on Earth.

What’s Next?

SpaceX aims to eventually launch 1,000 to 2,000 Starships every two years to carry people and cargo to Mars and build a permanent human settlement.

The upcoming 10th test flight still needs to pass some final checks and get approval from regulatory authorities, but preparations are already in full swing.
