In a terrifying incident inside the core area of Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh’s Madhai zone, three young men had to spend the whole night standing in waist-deep water to escape a tiger attack.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning when the three friends from Tekapar village entered the restricted area of the reserve to catch fish. Suddenly, a tiger appeared from the dark and attacked them.

In a panic, all three jumped into the Denwa river to escape. But the tiger followed them into the water and caught hold of one of them, named Rajendra. It started dragging him back towards the jungle.

Rajendra’s friends bravely fought back and managed to pull him away from the tiger. However, the tiger didn’t go away. It stayed near the riverbank, watching them closely.

Scared and injured, the friends stayed in the cold river water all night — from midnight till sunrise — afraid to move in case the tiger attacked again.

When the tiger finally left in the morning, the boys returned to their village and reported the incident to the forest officials. Rajendra had deep wounds on his chest and arm from the tiger’s teeth and claws. He was taken to a nearby hospital in Narmadapuram and later shifted to Bhopal for better treatment.

Forest officials confirmed it was the same tiger that had attacked a forest guard last month. The tiger had already been fitted with a tracking collar, and foot patrols in the area had been stopped for safety.
