A 30-year-old woman engineer in Assam died by suicide on Tuesday. Her name was Jyotisha Das. She worked as an assistant engineer in the Public Works Department (PWD). Police found her dead in her rented flat in Bongaigaon.
She left a handwritten suicide note. It said she was under mental stress. She named two senior officers. They had allegedly forced her to clear fake bills for work that was not completed.

“I am tired. I have no one to guide me. I don’t know what to do. My parents are worried. I am under pressure every day,” the note said.
The family has filed an FIR. The police have arrested Dinesh Medhi Sharma, a superintendent engineer, and Aminul Islam, a sub-divisional officer. Both were posted in Bongaigaon and worked closely with Jyotisha.
What Happened?
Jyotisha was working on government construction projects. According to her suicide note, the two officers told her to pass fake bills. The work was not complete, but they allegedly wanted the payment cleared.
She was scared. She had no support at work. She felt alone and helpless. This mental pressure pushed her to take the extreme step.
What Are Authorities Saying?
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken serious note of the matter. He has asked for a full and fair investigation.
“We will look into all parts of the case. Even the building mentioned in the complaint will be checked. We will also review the costing and bills,” said a police officer.
The government has said no one will be spared if found guilty.
This is not just about one person. It shows a bigger problem—young professionals under pressure in government jobs, especially women. Jyotisha tried to do the right thing. But she had no one to back her.
Her case must not be forgotten. It must bring change.
