Famous comedian and actor Johny Lever, known for making people laugh for decades, recently shared a very emotional and difficult part of his life – his son Jesse’s fight with cancer when he was just a child.
A Father’s Worst Fear
During a podcast with former actor Kunickaa Sadanand, Johny spoke about how his son Jesse developed a small lump on his neck when he was just 10 years old. The family tried many treatments and even had a surgery, but nothing worked. Doctors then told them the tumour was connected to Jesse’s nerves and couldn’t be removed. They warned that an operation could leave Jesse blind or paralysed.

Jesse was given 40-50 pills every day to shrink the tumour, but it kept growing.
Painful Moments and Helplessness
Johny recalled how painful it was to see his son suffer. Jesse was often bullied by classmates because of the visible tumour. Johny tried everything to make his son happy – taking him on trips and giving him gifts – but nothing helped his health.
A Ray of Hope from a Priest
One day, while they were in the USA on a family trip, they visited a church in Jersey. A priest noticed Jesse and asked about his condition. After hearing the story, the priest told Johny to take Jesse to a well-known hospital in New York City, the same place where actress Nargis Dutt had received cancer treatment.
The priest assured him that God would heal his son.
Taking a Leap of Faith
Even though doctors in India had advised against surgery, Johny decided to follow the priest’s advice. His wife was worried, but Johny convinced her. With help from friends in the US, they found a doctor.
Johny said, “Even though I wasn’t very religious, I prayed a lot. I felt like I was inside the operation theatre with my son.”
A Miracle: Jesse Was Cured
The operation was a success. Jesse raised his hand after the surgery to show he was okay. The entire tumour was removed, and there was just a small bandage on his neck.
Johny said this moment changed his life forever. He gave up all his bad habits and thanked God for giving his son a second chance.
Life Today
Now, Jesse is completely healthy. He is active on social media, sharing videos of himself singing and playing the drums. Johny’s daughter, Jamie Lever, is also doing well and travels around the world doing stand-up comedy – just like her father.
This powerful story shows the strength of a father’s love, the pain of watching a child suffer, and the miracle of hope, faith, and healing.
