Intel Layoffs 2025: 24,000 Jobs Gone, Big Factory Dreams Cancelled

Intel is cutting 24,000 jobs in 2025 and pulling out of big factory projects across Germany, Poland, and Costa Rica.

This is not just another cost-cutting story. This is Intel saying it’s time to stop wasting money and start focusing on what really matters. The company is getting lean, and the world is watching.

What’s really happening?

Intel is going through its biggest shake-up in years. As part of its 2025 plan, Intel layoffs will affect around 24,000 employees. That’s nearly 25% of its workforce from last year.

This news came out during Intel’s Q2 earnings report, and it’s clear now — the company wants to become smaller, faster, and more focused.

Projects shut down. Dreams paused.

Intel had big plans to build chip-making factories in Germany and Poland. These could have created thousands of jobs. But now, those projects are cancelled.

In Costa Rica, part of Intel’s work is moving to Vietnam. Around 2,000 people are affected. Some will lose jobs, others may shift roles.

Intel is clearly cutting anything that doesn’t make sense for business right now.

New boss. New mindset.

Intel’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, isn’t here to play safe. He has taken charge at a tough time. Intel is falling behind rivals, especially in the AI chip space.

Tan admitted something bold — Intel wasted money by building too many factories without real demand.

“I don’t believe in building things and hoping customers will show up,” he said.

From now on, Intel will only build what’s needed, not what looks good in presentations.

The damage (and the hope)

This reset will cost Intel around $2 billion in layoffs and restructuring. And it’s still not profitable. The company reported a $2.9 billion loss this quarter, even though it earned $12.9 billion in revenue.

Some good news? Its data center unit is slightly up. Intel is also planning to release new laptop chips in late 2025 and early 2026.

Tan also said he will personally review all major chip designs from now on. No more careless mistakes.

What’s next for Intel?

  • New leadership is coming to the data center division
  • A tighter plan for AI competition is on the way
  • More changes expected before the year ends

Intel layoffs 2025 are just the beginning. The company wants to be faster, smarter, and more relevant again. And it’s ready to take some pain to get there.
