On Sunday, the Israeli military said it will stop its operations in three areas of Gaza for part of each day to help send in much-needed aid. This pause is meant to help people who are suffering due to a lack of food and other basic needs.

The temporary stop in fighting—called a “tactical pause”—will happen every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the areas of Muwasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City. This pause will continue every day until further notice.

Even though the military had earlier said these areas were not under attack, reports say there were airstrikes and clashes in recent weeks.

Israel also said it will create safe paths to help aid groups deliver food and supplies to people in Gaza.

This decision comes after many experts warned of a possible famine because aid has not been able to get through. In the last few weeks, many Palestinians were killed near food distribution spots, leading to strong criticism from other countries, even from some of Israel’s closest allies.

To help more, the military also said it will start airdropping aid again to reach people in areas that are hardest to access.

However, the Israeli military made it clear that this humanitarian pause does not mean they are stopping their war against Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza. The fighting will still continue in other parts of the region.
