A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Haryana, where a 15-year-old boy from Bihar was forced into bonded labour and lost his arm while working. The boy, from Kishanganj district in Bihar, was made to work at a dairy farm in Haryana’s Jind district.
He was promised a monthly salary of ₹10,000 but was instead kept locked up and forced to operate a machine used to chop fodder. During this work, his arm was badly injured and eventually severed. Instead of getting proper treatment, the boy was given some medicine that made him unconscious.
When he woke up, he found himself in a local clinic with only a small amount of money. Soon after, he noticed his money and clothes were missing. The clinic staff told him to leave. With no money or identity documents, the boy decided to walk back to his home in Bihar.
He managed to walk about 150 kilometers barefoot, without food, in the rain. He was eventually seen near Tauru in Haryana’s Nuh district by two government school teachers. One of them, Arvind Kumar, said the boy looked very weak, confused, and hadn’t eaten in days.
The teachers gave him food and took him to the Nuh Sadar police station. The police gave him clothes and admitted him to the local government hospital. Doctors there said his injury was already two weeks old.
The police contacted the boy’s family through Kishanganj Police, and his brother came to Nuh that evening. The boy was then taken to PGIMS Rohtak for further treatment and is now said to be in stable condition.
Police were ready to file a case (zero FIR), but the boy’s family decided not to pursue legal action, saying they couldn’t afford it.
This incident has raised serious concerns about child labour and the safety of poor migrant workers.
