Ravindra Jadeja created history during the 5th and final Test between India and England at The Oval. On Day 3, he played a solid innings of 53 runs from 77 balls, hitting five boundaries. But more than the score, it’s the records he broke that made the day special.
Jadeja Sets a New Record in England
With this half-century, Jadeja became the first-ever batter to score six 50+ scores in a single Test series in England while batting at number 6 or lower. He broke the 59-year-old record held by West Indies legend Garry Sobers, who had five such scores in 1966.

First Indian to Do So
Jadeja also became the first Indian to score six 50+ scores in a Test series in England. He broke the previous record of five, which was held by:
- Sunil Gavaskar (1979)
- Virat Kohli (2018)
- Rishabh Pant (2025)
Over 500 Runs in the Series
So far, Jadeja has scored 516 runs in this Test series — all while batting at number 6 or lower. This makes him the first Indian to score over 500 runs from that position in a Test series. He broke VVS Laxman’s record of 474 runs from 2002.
Ties with Legends
Jadeja now has 10 scores of 50+ in England (at No.6 or lower), which is the most by any visiting batter, beating even Sobers who had nine.
He is now third on the all-time list of most runs at No.6 or lower in an away Test series:
- Garry Sobers – 722 runs (1966)
- Wasim Raja – 517 runs (1976/77)
- Ravindra Jadeja – 516 runs (2025)
He has also matched the record for most 50+ scores (six) in an away series at No.6 or lower, joining Sobers and Wasim Raja.
A Fantastic All-Round Performance
In this series, the 36-year-old Jadeja has scored one century and five half-centuries, with his highest score being 107 not out in the Manchester Test. He has also taken seven wickets, proving his value as a world-class all-rounder.

A Historic Series for India
Jadeja is now the third Indian to score over 500 runs in this series, after:
- Shubman Gill – 754 runs
- KL Rahul – 532 runs
This is the first time ever that three Indian batters have scored over 500 runs in the same Test series.
Ravindra Jadeja’s amazing performance with the bat and ball has made history. He broke records that stood for decades and proved once again why he is the world’s best all-rounder. His efforts are a big reason India is doing so well in this tough series against England.
