
Rani Mukerji has won her first National Award for Best Actress for her powerful performance in the film ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs. Norway’. The winners of the 71st National Film Awards were announced on Friday at a press conference held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi.

The film, directed by Ashima Chibber, is based on a true story and was released in 2023. It highlights the emotional journey of a mother fighting for her child in a foreign country.

Rani Visits Siddhivinayak Temple to Seek Blessings
After receiving the honour, Rani visited the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai on Saturday. She was seen offering prayers along with her brother Raja Mukerji. The temple’s official Instagram page shared pictures of her visit, where she was seen praying to Lord Ganesha.
Rani Shares Her Feelings on the Big Win
Rani expressed her happiness by saying she is overwhelmed to win a National Award for the first time in her 30-year-long career. She thanked the National Award jury for appreciating her work and dedicated the award to the entire team of the film — including producer Nikkhil Advani, co-producers Monisha and Madhu, and director Ashima Chibber.
She said this award feels like a recognition of her dedication and love for acting and cinema over the last three decades.
A Heartfelt Dedication to Mothers
Rani emotionally dedicated her award to all the mothers around the world. She said the love of a mother is pure and strong, and this movie showed how a mother can fight against all odds for her child. She also shared that becoming a mother herself helped her connect more deeply with the role.
“This win feels very personal to me,” she said.
