This weekend at the Hindi box office was full of surprises. The animated devotional action film ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ became the top-grossing movie, beating star-studded films like ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and the hit movie ‘Saiyaara’.

What makes this even more impressive is that ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ is an animated film — a genre that usually doesn’t perform this well in India. Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film earned a massive ₹34.80 crore in its second weekend. That’s a huge 219% jump from its first weekend, where it made ₹15.85 crore.
So far, the film has earned a total of ₹91.25 crore in India (in all languages), and its Hindi version alone has made ₹67.25 crore.
Even though it was in its second week, ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ performed better than new releases.
Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, a commercial entertainer, had an okay opening weekend, earning ₹24.75 crore. It still did better than ‘Dhadak 2’ starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, which made only ₹11 crore.

Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Kingdom’ started strong on Thursday with ₹21.25 crore, but it lost momentum over the weekend, making only ₹22.50 crore from Friday to Sunday. Most of its earnings came from Telugu and Tamil regions. Even with Vijay’s popularity, the movie couldn’t keep up the buzz.

On the other hand, ‘Saiyaara’, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, continued doing well in its third weekend. It collected ₹19.25 crore, and its total now stands at a whopping ₹300 crore in 17 days — making it one of the year’s biggest hits. But even Saiyaara couldn’t beat Mahavatar Narsimha this weekend.

In short, ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ has made history for animated films in India. Its mythological story, devotional theme, and strong emotional connection with the audience helped it outshine big-budget films and popular stars.
