Ravichandran Ashwin, a former India spinner, has told Chennai Super Kings (CSK) that he wants to leave the team. He made this decision after talking with MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team captain.
Ashwin, who is 38 years old, played in the IPL 2025 season for CSK but didn’t perform well. He took only seven wickets in nine matches. CSK had bought him for a big amount of 9.75 crore rupees in the mega auction, but he couldn’t meet the expectations.

Ashwin has also been working as the Director of Operations at the CSK Academy for the past year. But if he joins another team, this job could cause a conflict of interest. So, he is planning to leave that role too.
It is not clear yet whether Ashwin will be traded to another team or if he will enter the mini auction later this year.
In the IPL 2025 season, Ashwin struggled, especially in the powerplay overs, where he gave away too many runs. Because of this, the team management sometimes did not play him. Ashwin himself admitted that he did not have a good season and wants to improve his game in the powerplay.

Ashwin retired from international cricket after the test match against Australia at the Gabba, finishing as one of India’s top wicket-takers in all formats.
Recently, CSK officials, along with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and MS Dhoni, met in Chennai to discuss the team’s plans for the next IPL season.
Ashwin first played for CSK for six seasons, then moved to other teams like Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals before returning to CSK in 2025.
