Shah Rukh Khan is a famous actor known for his amazing performances in many hit movies. One of his popular films is ‘Chak De! India’. But did you know that he was not the first actor chosen for this movie? The role was first offered to another Bollywood star, Salman Khan.
Why did Salman Khan say no to ‘Chak De! India’?

Salman Khan, who is also very popular and known for his funny side, talked about this during the promotion of his movie ‘Sultan’ in 2016. He joked that he said no because even Shah Rukh Khan should get to do some great movies too.
Salman explained that at that time, his fans expected him to play strong, heroic roles. But the character of the coach in ‘Chak De! India’ was very serious. Salman was doing more fun and commercial films like ‘Partner’ then, so he felt the role didn’t suit his image. He thought his fans would expect something different from him, like wearing a wig and winning the hockey match, which wouldn’t fit the movie’s style.
He said he still loves doing commercial films, but sometimes he wants to do meaningful movies too.

About ‘Chak De! India’
The movie came out in 2007. It tells the story of a women’s hockey team and their tough journey to become champions. The story was inspired by a real hockey player named Mir Ranjan Negi. Shah Rukh Khan played the coach who tries to clear his name and prove himself. He accepted the role quickly because he had played hockey when he was in college.
