Ukraine’s top general, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has warned that Russian forces are increasing their attacks along the northeastern border, aiming to break into the Sumy region. This area, which borders Russia’s Kursk region, has become a hotspot in the ongoing war.

Why Sumy Matters

Sumy is strategically important because it was previously a launch point for Ukrainian counteroffensives. Now, Russian troops are pushing hard to regain control. According to reports, Ukrainian forces have been mostly pushed out of Russian territory they captured last August.

Ukraine’s Defensive Stand

“Our soldiers are working hard to stop the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukraine,” General Syrskyi stated on Facebook. Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had already warned that Russia was preparing a spring offensive targeting Sumy and Kharkiv.

Adding to the tension, Ukraine’s border guards reported an increase in Russian sabotage groups crossing into Sumy. These small, aggressive raids are testing Ukraine’s defenses and creating chaos.

Zelenskyy Seeks Allies’ Support

Amid the rising threats, Zelenskyy was in Paris discussing potential peace deals and how Western allies could assist Ukraine if negotiations happen. The question remains: Can Ukraine hold its ground?
