A Shocking Clash in Malad East
Mumbai Police booked ten people for allegedly assaulting a group carrying saffron flags near a mosque in Malad East, in a disturbing incident that has raised tensions. The clash, which took place on Sunday, left several injured and sparked tensions in the area.
What Exactly Happened?
Rajkumar Choubey, a 37-year-old mobile repair shop owner from Sakinaka, was heading to a function in Malad East with his friends. Choubey and his brother-in-law rode on a bike. Seven others followed behind in an auto-rickshaw. They were carrying saffron flags.
Suddenly, Choubey’s phone rang. It was his friend, Ganesh Maurya, calling from the auto-rickshaw. Maurya sounded panicked. In the background, Choubey heard a man shout, “Hit them all!”
Alarmed, Choubey and his brother-in-law turned back. When they reached the spot, they saw a crowd surrounding Maurya and the others, near a mosque. The attackers were beating them brutally. The victims later said they were also targeted with communal slurs.

Police Intervention and Arrests
Police arrived quickly, bringing the situation under control. After reviewing CCTV footage, they arrested three out of the ten accused. The charges include unlawful assembly, assault, and causing grievous hurt.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident went viral, with Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam accusing police of delaying arrests due to political pressure.
Two Sides to the Story
While the victims say they were attacked just for carrying saffron flags, others claim that chanting slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” provoked the clash. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full story.
