Belgium’s €1 Billion Commitment to Ukraine in 2025
In a significant move, Belgium has pledged €1 billion ($1.1 billion) in aid to Ukraine for the year 2025. This announcement was made during a joint press conference between Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Wever and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kyiv. The aid package is part of Belgium’s ongoing commitment to Ukraine amid the war with Russia.

The Belgian government has promised to continue this financial support throughout Prime Minister De Wever’s tenure, reinforcing the country’s resolve to aid Ukraine in its efforts to defend itself.
The pledge underscores Belgium’s determination to stand by Ukraine in its time of need and provides critical assistance to the country’s war efforts.

Belgium’s Military Aid: F-16 Fighter Jets
As part of its military support for Ukraine, Belgium is also providing F-16 fighter jets to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Belgium will deliver two F-16 jets in 2024, although these are intended for spare parts.
The following year, two operational F-16 jets will be sent to Ukraine, pending the arrival of Belgium’s own F-35 fighter jets.
The transfer of F-16 jets is part of a broader strategy to maintain Belgium’s military contributions to Ukraine. The arrival of the F-35 jets will eventually lead to the retirement of the F-16s. The transfer is expected to be smooth, but it hinges on the timely arrival of Belgium’s new F-35 jets.
Prime Minister De Wever emphasized the importance of these jets in bolstering Ukraine’s defense as the conflict with Russia persists. The F-16s will provide Ukraine with enhanced air capabilities, offering significant support in the ongoing war.
