Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recently shared that he was offered the movie Swades before Shah Rukh Khan, but he turned it down because he found the story boring.
Aamir had previously worked with director Ashutosh Gowariker on Lagaan, which was a big success and even got nominated for an Oscar. After Lagaan, Ashutosh narrated the script of his next film (which was Swades) to Aamir. At the time, the movie was titled Kaveri Amma, named after a character in the film.

In an interview with Zoom, Aamir said, “I found the story very boring! Ashutosh told me the full script while we were still working on Lagaan. It was a long three-hour narration. When he asked me what I thought, I told him honestly that I got bored.”

Aamir explained, “What you’re trying to say in the film is noble and important. But if you present it in such a boring way, I won’t enjoy it. Maybe others will like it, but I didn’t.”
He also added that he never watched Swades, even after it was released. However, he noticed that people really liked Shah Rukh Khan’s performance in it.
Swades later became one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most loved films and even won two National Awards.
