Tata Motors is gearing up to bring back the iconic Tata Sierra this year. The SUV will return in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) versions, finally putting to rest the long wait and rumours about its launch timeline.
At the recent launch of Tata’s flagship electric Harrier EV, Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, confirmed that the Sierra will hit Indian roads before the year ends.

What This Means for You
The new Tata Sierra won’t just be a nostalgic throwback. It promises a fresh, modern look with rugged SUV features and smarter tech. The classic rear glass design is gone, but the spirit remains.
Plus, it’s now a more practical 5-door SUV, not the old 3-door from the 90s, making it more family-friendly and road-ready for today’s buyers.
If you love powerful rides, the Sierra will come with two ICE engine options: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol with 168bhp and 280Nm torque, and a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel, packing 168bhp and 350Nm torque. Both engines will offer manual and automatic transmissions. And the EV version? Expect multiple battery choices and a range of over 500 km, sharing tech with the Harrier EV.

The Return of AWD?
Here’s some insider info: Tata’s last all-wheel drive (AWD) model was the Hexa, phased out in 2019. Since AWD sales make up less than 5% of the market, Tata paused on it. But Srivatsa says AWD is coming back—in a modern, electric form. That means future EVs and possibly ICE models like the Sierra, Harrier, and Safari could get AWD, depending on what customers want. So, off-road lovers, stay tuned.

What’s Next for EV Buyers?
According to Srivatsa, Indian EV buyers are no longer just worried about price or charging. They want performance and style. With better charging networks and competitive models like the Harrier EV, the EV market is shifting. Tata’s ready to meet those higher expectations with vehicles like the Sierra EV.
Rare Earth Magnets and Supply Chains
One more thing on everyone’s mind: the supply of rare earth materials used in EV motors. While geopolitical issues pose risks, Tata is optimistic. The company trusts government and industry efforts will sort things out, keeping EV production smooth.
Tata Sierra: The Legend Returns
The Tata Sierra comeback is one of the most exciting moments for Indian SUVs this year. It blends old-school charm with new-age tech and green power options. Whether you want petrol, diesel, or electric, Tata’s got you covered. Keep an eye out — the Sierra will be here soon.
