The Rise of AI in Solving Real-World Problems

In the fast-paced world of technology, some innovations fade away, while others change the game. Artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and workflow automation are leading the charge, helping businesses tackle challenges like theft and inefficiency.

AI vs. Shoplifting: A High-Tech Solution

Shoplifting is becoming a big problem for retailers, sometimes even leading to violence. To tackle this, a Paris-based startup called Veesion is using AI-powered surveillance software. Their system watches CCTV footage and detects suspicious actions, like someone hiding items in their coat, helping reduce theft by up to 60%.

Hamza Saleem from Veesion says, “Our AI is constantly learning, which helps it get better at spotting shoplifters.” Unlike facial recognition, which needs previous data, Veesion’s technology catches thieves by watching their actions.

As a result, the company’s revenue increased from €200,000 in 2020 to €6 million in 2023, showing that demand for this technology is growing fast.

Workflow Automation: Saving Time and Money

Meanwhile, London-based SourceWhale is using AI to streamline recruitment. Their software automates tasks like candidate follow-ups and data collection, saving agencies countless hours.

Timothy Hogwood, CEO and co-founder, shares how they accidentally became a software company: “We got dragged kicking and screaming into this.” The pivot paid off—revenue grew from €137,000 in 2020 to €7.75 million in 2023.

The Future of AI in Business

From theft prevention to workflow automation, AI is proving its worth. As these technologies evolve, businesses are finding smarter ways to protect their assets and boost productivity.
