A 25-year-old medical student from Odisha died by suicide in his hostel room at AIIMS-Patna on Saturday. The student, Jadavendra Sahu, was in his first year of the MD (Doctor of Medicine) program in the gynaecology and obstetrics department. He had joined AIIMS-Patna in January this year.
Jadavendra was from Gondiya block in Dhenkanal district, Odisha. According to doctors, he took his own life late Friday night by injecting himself with a large dose of an anaesthetic drug.

On Saturday morning, when he didn’t open the door of his room or respond to calls, his friends informed the college administration. His phone kept ringing inside, but there was no answer.
The Phulwarisharif police were called, and in the presence of AIIMS officials and a magistrate, the door to his hostel room (Room 515, Hostel 10) was broken open. Jadavendra was found lying unconscious on his bed. He was immediately taken to the AIIMS emergency ward, but doctors declared him dead.
Police said they have started an investigation. A forensic science team (FSL) was called to the spot, and his family has been informed. A postmortem will be done to confirm the exact cause of death, and other evidence will also be collected.
Authorities have not shared any clear reason behind his death yet. The police are waiting for reports from the forensic team and the postmortem to learn more.
