The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to release its preliminary report soon on the tragic Air India plane crash that happened in Ahmedabad on June 12, according to Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu.
While a report had earlier said the report might be out by Friday, no exact date has been confirmed yet. Minister Naidu said, “Very soon… AAIB is working on it. It’s their responsibility, so let them do their job.”

What Happened in the Crash?
- The crash involved Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.
- The plane crashed shortly after takeoff, hitting the hostel area of B J Medical College.
- 240 out of 241 people on board died. Only one passenger survived.
- 19 people on the ground also lost their lives.
Investigation Progress
- The Ministry of Civil Aviation released a status update on June 26, promising transparency and accountability in the investigation.
- The AAIB is expected to submit the preliminary report within 30 days, as per international aviation rules by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
- However, India is not strictly bound to this deadline.
What Is the Investigation Focusing On?
According to reports, investigators are looking into the movement of engine fuel control switches, which help operate the aircraft’s engines. But exact details of the suspected issues have not been made public.
