Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) saw its stock rise by 4% after securing a major defence contract worth ₹2,210 crore. The deal is for supplying an advanced electronic warfare (EW) system for Mi-17 helicopters used by the Indian Armed Forces.

These EW systems are made in India, designed by CASDIC and DRDO, and manufactured by BEL. CASDIC, a part of DRDO, is located in Hyderabad and works under the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL). It specializes in developing and integrating combat aircraft systems.

The new EW suite includes three key components:

  • Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) – alerts pilots of enemy radar threats
  • Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) – detects incoming missiles
  • Countermeasure Dispensing System (CMDS) – automatically releases flares or chaff to protect the helicopter

These technologies together will greatly improve the safety and survivability of the Mi-17 helicopters during missions.

BEL also shared that, with this order, its total bookings in the current financial year have reached ₹2,803 crore.
