A tech company founder in Bengaluru has decided to close the company’s office there and move it to Pune within six months. This decision comes because of ongoing problems related to language in Bengaluru.

The founder, Kaushik Mukherjee, said he made this choice because of what he called “language nonsense.” He explained that many of his employees don’t speak Kannada, the local language, and he didn’t want them to face problems or feel uncomfortable. In fact, his staff first raised these worries, and he chose to support them.

Today I took a decision to wind up our Bangalore office in the next 6 months and move it to Pune. If this language nonsense is to continue, I do not want my non Kannada speaking staff to be the next “victim”.
This idea was mooted by the staff themselves.
I agreed to their POV. https://t.co/M9abD2OYOD

How did people react?

People online had mixed reactions. Some warned that Pune might also have similar language problems. They said, “In Pune, your staff might get trouble from MNS if they don’t speak Marathi.” Others suggested moving to cities like Gandhinagar or Noida, where language is not a big issue.

Many people sarcastically said, “Good riddance. Thanks for helping reduce the crowd in Bengaluru.” Others joked that the founder should tell his staff to learn Marathi when they move to Pune.

Recent language problem in Bengaluru

There was a new language issue in Bengaluru recently when a State Bank of India manager refused to speak Kannada to a customer. This made many local people angry because they felt it was disrespectful to their language and culture. The issue became very popular on social media, and many people asked for strict action against the bank manager for ignoring the importance of the local language.
