Microsoft founder Bill Gates shared that he plays the popular word puzzle game “Wordle” every morning after waking up. In a blog post from 2022, he said, “I can’t stop playing Wordle” and it has become a daily habit for him since February or March of that year.

What is Wordle?

Wordle is a game where you get six chances to guess a five-letter English word. Gates said he usually solves it in four or five tries.

Gates Also Plays Other Puzzle Games

Apart from Wordle, Gates enjoys similar games like:

  • Quordle: Guess four words at once.
  • Octordle: Guess eight words at once.
  • Nerdle: A math-based puzzle involving equations.
He mentioned that he’s probably better at Nerdle because of his strong background in math.

Connecting with Family and Friends

Gates said these games are not just fun but also a great way to connect with friends and family. He often shares scores and compares results with them.

His Strategy for Wordle

To improve his Wordle performance, Gates:

  • Starts with vowel-heavy words like Audio, Ounce, or Adieu.
  • Looks for common letter pairs like “CH” or “SL”.
  • Pays attention to rare letters like “Q”, “X”, or “Z” which help narrow down answers.
  • Uses his reading habits to recognize uncommon words like Smite or Duchy.

But even with strategy, luck plays a role. For example, he once guessed “Pasty” instead of the correct answer “Tasty” even though he had four correct letters.

Tricky Words

Gates finds words ending in “-ight” (like Light, Fight, Sight, Tight) to be especially difficult because there are so many possible answers with similar endings.
