IMF Loans Pakistan $1B While It Fires Missiles at India—Seriously?
In a baffling move, the IMF has approved a $1 billion loan to Pakistan—even as the country rains down drones and missiles across India’s borders.

The timing? Just days after Islamabad launched Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos, a pre-dawn attack using Fattah-1 missiles on Indian territory.
India isn’t buying the IMF’s argument that the loan supports “economic stability.” Leaders here are fuming, and rightly so.
“How can peace prevail when the IMF is indirectly funding war?” asked Omar Abdullah, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister. His message? Aid meant for reform is being fired out of rocket launchers into Indian towns like Poonch, Uri, and Tangdhar.
I’m not sure how the “International Community” thinks the current tension in the subcontinent will be de-escalated when the IMF essentially reimburses Pakistan for all the ordnance it is using to devastate Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, Tangdhar & so many other places.

This isn’t new. India has long warned that IMF bailouts to Pakistan—meant for financial reforms—get rerouted to fund cross-border terrorism and military adventurism. At a recent board meeting, India formally opposed a larger $2.3B loan package. And with good reason.
RECORD: Pakistan has taken 24 IMF bailouts since 1958 — the highest in World.
Timeline of IMF bailouts for Pakistan:
1958, 1965, 1972, 1973, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1988, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2008, 2013, 2019,2025… 24times and counting.#PakistanEconomy #IndiaPakistanWar— Brinks Report (@brinksreportcom) May 9, 2025
On the ground, the situation is worsening. Over 48 hours, Pakistan launched drone swarms, missile strikes, and artillery attacks, hitting areas in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Civilians are terrified, but global institutions seem unmoved.
Even global analysts are puzzled. “Foreign aid fueling war is madness,” one user posted on X. Another tagged world leaders asking, “Exactly, what’s going on?”
India’s message is clear: It’s time the IMF stops writing blank cheques to bad actors. If accountability doesn’t come soon, the institution risks losing its moral authority.
The world must decide: Do we fund growth—or gunpowder? This is proof that the IMF is supporting a terror state.
