Climate activist Greta Thunberg said in a social media video on Monday that she was “kidnapped in international waters” by Israeli forces. She was onboard the humanitarian Freedom Flotilla, headed toward Gaza with medical aid and supplies.
But the story took a political turn when former U.S. President Donald Trump responded—mocking her as “angry” and suggesting she take anger management classes.

Why It Matters: Gaza, Aid & Global Voices
The Freedom Flotilla ship Madleen, which left Sicily earlier this June, carried baby formula, flour, diapers, and sanitary products meant for people in Gaza. Thunberg and a group of activists were on board.
Israel, however, enforced its blockade. The Israeli military intercepted the vessel, claiming it violated their national security. Activists, including Greta, say they were detained illegally.
Trump’s Swipe: Political Theatre, Again
When asked about Thunberg’s “kidnapping” claim, Trump told reporters:
“She is a strange person. A young, angry person… I think she has to go to an anger management class.”
He also added, “Israel has enough problems without kidnapping Greta Thunberg.”
For someone who once mocked Greta by saying she “needs to chill and go to a movie,” this latest jab is hardly surprising. Trump has long ridiculed young activists—especially those who challenge establishment power.

Israel Calls It a “Selfie Yacht”
In response, Israel’s foreign ministry posted on X (formerly Twitter), calling the flotilla “a selfie yacht.” They insisted the activists were safe, fed, and hydrated. Sandwiches and water were reportedly offered onboard.
Israel also warned earlier that it would use “whatever measures are necessary” to stop any ship from breaking the Gaza blockade.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition accused Israel of violating international law by intercepting the vessel in open waters.
A Flare-Up of Youth vs Power
This isn’t just about one boat or one activist. It’s a sign of how loud, young voices still make the powerful feel uncomfortable. Greta Thunberg is no stranger to global headlines—or being mocked by older men in suits.
But here’s the truth: whether you agree with her or not, her voice keeps showing up where the world is hurting. And that’s more than most politicians can say.
