A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked a huge discussion about how artificial intelligence (AI) can help in healthcare. A user named Shreya shared how ChatGPT, the AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, helped her find out the cause of her mother’s illness — something that even top doctors and hospitals failed to do.

A Long and Scary Health Journey

Shreya explained that her mother had been suffering from a constant cough for 1.5 years. The family visited top doctors, big hospitals, and even tried homeopathy, Ayurveda, and allopathy, but nothing worked. Things got worse when her mother started to have internal bleeding. Doctors gave a warning:

“If this continues for 6 more months, it could become life-threatening.”

When Doctors Couldn’t Help, AI Did

In desperation, Shreya decided to try something different. She went to ChatGPT and described all of her mother’s symptoms. The chatbot gave her a list of possible causes. One of them stood out — a side effect of a blood pressure (BP) medicine.

ChatGPT then asked a smart follow-up question:

“Is she on BP medication with this ingredient?”

The answer was yes.

ChatGPT saved my mom
My mom had a nonstop cough for 1.5 years.
We saw top doctors, visited big hospitals in & out of the city, tried homeopathy, ayurveda, allopathy nothing helped.
It got worse: internal bleeding started.

The Breakthrough

Shreya immediately took this information to her doctor. After checking, the doctor agreed that the BP medicine could be the cause of her mother’s symptoms. They changed the medicine, and now, her mother is finally getting better.

Shreya said,

“Not exaggerating, but ChatGPT saved her life.”

She also thanked OpenAI and Sam Altman (co-founder of OpenAI) for creating something so helpful.

Internet Reactions

People online had mixed but thoughtful reactions:

  • “Happy your mom is better, but it’s worrying that so many doctors missed this. It’s a known side effect.”
  • “ChatGPT is better than Google — it gives real possibilities.”
  • “This is a great example of how AI can help when used the right way.”
  • “Your mom was lucky. AI still has a long way to go before replacing experts.”
  • “Yes, AI can do wonders. Glad she’s healing.”

This story shows that AI, when used responsibly, can offer valuable support in healthcare — but it also reminds us of the need for better attention from professionals.
